The Final Countdown

Hello everyone! Welcome to our blog for our LST mission trip to Belo Horizonte, Brazil. We'll keep you updated as often as possible and share our stories, experiences, and pictures. We're about a month away from the trip, so we may not be posting a lot yet.

So who are "we?" Our team consists of three people. Natasha Duncan is a student at Kansas State University. She's currently studying nursing and will graduate in 2011. Kavan Rogness is a grad student at Kansas State University. Like Natasha, he'll graduate in 2011 with a master's degree in communication studies. Chase Sinclair rounds out the team and is pursuing a degree in architectural engineering by 2013. We came together as a team last fall. We're very excited about the chance to serve God with one another. We have a very good team dynamic. You'll get to see more of that as we go along.

As we said before, we're headed to Belo Horizonte, Brazil. We depart on June 14th and will return on July 27th. For those of you who aren't familiar with our trip or the Let's Start Talking (LST) ministry, here's a crash course. Basically we go in and partner up with a host church. Once we're, we meet one-on-one with local readers. We're essentially there to help them practice their English skills by reading from a simplified English translation of the Book of Luke. LST has had great success with this method as a lot of people want to work on their English, and this is a great way just to get people talking about their lives and faith as a whole.

It's kind of daunting, but we're very excited. We've had quite a bit of training to get to this point. We've had 10 2-hour training sessions with additional training weekends in Oklahoma and Nebraska over the last three months. The training has left us very well prepared, but there are still a few more things for us to take care of in the next four weeks.

Nevertheless, the three of us are very eager to find out what God has planned for us. We know that it will be challenging, but that's part of why we want to do this. We want to step out of our comfort zones and grow as much as we can. At the same time, we want to serve and hopefully make a difference in people's lives. We know that God can do powerful things, and we're excited to see what's in store.

Many of you have supported us financially and with prayer, and we thank you so much for that. We ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers as we prepare for this journey. God bless!
